RE: Northeast US - with a 3 year old

I have a three year old (will be in Nov.) as well as a nine year old. The best thing we did was to put up a large tent/screenhouse with a tarp floor. We got it at walmart and so far it has held up well. It keeps the bugs out and the kids in especially the little one. we also eat in there and watch TV. we put some mats down so the kids can nap or lounge out. I'll take pics this week and post them on my blog so you can see the setup. It's like a dining room/rec room combo.

Gerbils and camping

This may be a bit out there, but where else can I get an answer for this? At this moment we do not have any pets. My DH is dead set against dogs and cats. (my schedule is to busy anyway for a dog or cat)I am thinking of getting my sons a couple of gerbils (plus I always wanted one anyway)We camp seasonally and we spend a few days away from home at a time. I would like to take the critters with us to the campsite, but I don't know if they would like constant change from one environment to another. I would probably set up a home "tank" and a smaller camper "tank" so they would be comfortable. I'm just putting this out there hoping someone may have a suggestion.

RE: Gerbils and camping

I just saw the forum for pets-DUH! If I can figure out how to move this down there I'll move it to where this question should be. Sorry, its midnight and I'm not thinking properly.

RE: Loan question

Thanks for the loan suggestions. I usually pay by Bill Pay, therefore, I will call SML and see what they will do with any extra money I send via online. The bank website does have a "memo" space so I might use that and tell them to apply the remaining to the principal. I would love to figure out how much I would actually need to send in a month to pay this loan off in two years.:h:S Thanks again! Vicki

RE: I Am Looking For A Link To An RV Site

you might want to post this on the Truck Camper Forum. Even though it's not a true truck camper it might be a close cousin. Also, take a look at the photo gallery. you might see what your looking for. It's a shot.

RE: This week its X-Mas at the campground---I just can't do it

Do whatever makes you comfortable and quit worrying about what other people do. And for the kids' sake, explain to them why you made your choice. Your role as a parent is to set examples, teach, and set values for them to take into their adulthood- not to teach them to be sheep in the herd. point well taken. Also, I think I used the "x-mas" due to it not being a sincere time of celebration. I used the term "Christmas" to reflect the true time of celebration.

This week its X-Mas at the campground---I just can't do it

Like many campgrounds ours likes the holiday theme weekend. The farthest thing from my mind right now is X-Mas. How many of you get into this off season holiday stuff and how many shy away. For the kids sake I'll pull out the little fiber optic tree or something. Also, who thinks I'm a hum-bug. FYI: when it really is Christmas time I am very in the spirit.

RE: Brrrrr... where do you spend the winter?

We FINALLY got our season tickets to redskins stadium (Hail to the redskins!). So, when we can afford to get the class C we will spend lots of time in MD. I would like to give Fort Wilderness a try. I am going to make sure to have heated water tanks so we can winter camp. My husband is a landscaper, that means he is off in the winter:) I teach so summer is my time to camp. The small TT we have now is just not set up for winter----so I wait and enjoy my seasonal site.

Loan question

I have a $20,000.00 SML(Division on Sallie Mae)loan that I took out for 8yrs. My payments are about $280.00 a month. I have about $14,000.00 left. This is now year three and I want to get this paid off ASAP. Is it possible to call SML and have them increase the payment and shorten the remaining years, or should I just send in more money when the payment is due? Is that what "putting money down on the principal" is about. Any other suggestions? I wrote a whole post on how I got into this financial pickle. Read my newest blog entry and learn what not to do. Thanks a bunch! Blog link

RE: Ford V10 Verses Chevy 6.0 V8 Which is better?

I am starting to pull away from wanting a diesel. So I'll be watching this thread closely. I drive a Chevy Malibu, My husband is a landscaper and he has a dump truck with a Ford 450 chassis. We also have '53 ford 150 pick-up, My grandfather, who was the original owner, gave it to us an we restored it 90%. I have these great picture of my grandfather building a camper on the back of the old truck. I'll put the pics on the blog one day. We will probably go with the Ford.

Narowowing down my search to Sprinter Chassis

I have searched the web and found several sprinter chassis models. I already know and love the Navion/View models. I want to know more about the others before I go out to the dealerships and check them out in person. These are the others I found. Please let me know if I left some out: Fleetwood Pulse and Icon Chateau, Dutchmen and Four Winds Coach House Platinum II 241XL Coachmen Prism Conquest B cruiser MB and Yellowstone MB. I'm sure there are more. If you own any of these or others let me know and your experiences. Thanks for all your help---this is a great forum!

RE: Who has an MH with Mercedes-Benz engine?

What can you tell me about the Mercedes-Benz diesel engine. How does it compare to gasoline and I know most need premium gas. Is it all that better? Hmmm... The MB diesel requires diesel fuel, not gas. Sorry--what I meant to say was gasoline run MHs run on premium gas. The Navion/View comes in either gas or MB option.

RE: Setting up and disconnecting from site, ease or a pain?

Do I need to add sway bars and breaks and all that other towing equiptment for a toad?

RE: What is the one best feature in your MH? and the worst.

You first. Ok- I don't have a MH I have a TT. So I can tell you from the view of someone with cramped living quarters and a camper I not thrilled with. I do like the outside grill. It attaches and detaches with ease. Cleaning it is not too much of a chore. I don't like the oven. It does not cook evenly. I noticed in some of the MHs I looked at they had convection ovens. That makes more sense.

Setting up and disconnecting from site, ease or a pain?

I have had three travel trailer. Now I am entering the world or the drivable MH. I am concerned about setting up camp and then having to disconnect and reconnecting everything every time I want to go somewhere. I don't want to tow a small car behind the MH. Is this a problem for anyone?

RE: Cleaning gray tank

I put powdered water softener, about a cup, in the gray and black. Then drive it around. I also add it every once in a while when parked and rock the unit to swish it around. Works for me.
